This is the Signed unique original Pen & Ink Wash by Cecil Doughty.

This graphic representation of the Massacre of Glencoe on 13th February 1692 by Cecil Doughty captures the harsh conditions and terror stricken inhabitants of Glencoe.

Thirty-eight MacDonalds from the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by the guests who had accepted their hospitality, on the grounds that the MacDonalds had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, William and Mary. Another forty women and children died of exposure after their homes were burned.

This pen and ink wash has also been spot highlighted in white gouache by Doughty which gives a heightened sense of the freezing cold conditions and horror of this inhumane massacre.

Published in an edition of Finding Out magazine, Doughty often painted and drew historical scenes throughout his lifetime, and is considered a rich source of illustrated history by many, as his research into his subject matter was very thorough.
