These are the unique original Gouache paintings by James E McConnell.

Trying to cross London in the Middle Ages was much worse than it is today. One was forced to pick one's way through piles of foul rubbish and dodge torrents of slops which cascaded unexpectedly from windows on the unfortunate passers-by.

All of which must have seemed worse when the people were on the move to try to avoid the Black Death. Two boards are offered all part of one large image which was cut during the printing process.

Originally published in Look and Learn issue 464, 5th December 1970. Both boards are 390mm x 500mm.
