20" x 7" (498mm x 174mm)Date:
2001This is the unique original Pen & Ink drawing by Enric Badia Romero.
An exceptionally rare strip from the very last Modesty Blaise story.
This strip is not only one of the last ever strips inked by Romero, but is also the 12th last strip of the entire series.
Romero battled with the publisher and refused to send his originals for this final story to have word balloons stuck to them. For this reason, this strip has no word balloons obscuring the delightful ink work. This strip is also drawn slightly larger than other strips.
It is extremely rare to find strips from this last story, and this is a beautiful example with Modesty wearing a bikini, crawling out of the well in the first panel and the second panel framed from between her legs. The third panel showing Modesty's friend Dany Chavasse in the arms of Leda, the manipulated daughter of Professor Nikomede Katris.
With such dynamic viewpoints, deep blacks and an array of brush techniques, Romero has firmly cemented his place in newspaper strip history.
