This is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Serrabona.A beautiful hand painted original which was most probably originally used as a paperback cover in the late 1930s.
The painting was re-used in a very early issue of the British comic Look & Learn (number 30), to illustrate a feature on Edgar Rice Burroughs, the incredible author of At the Earth's Core, A Princess of Mars and Tarzan of the Apes.
Here, Tarzan prepares to engage in a fight for survival with a wild Lioness in this incredible painting on wood.
Original rubber ink stamps on the reverse of the painting read:
The Illustrated Art Agency & Studios, 73 Bond Street, London, W.1., Hyde Park 5948.
There are some slight paper residue marks predominantly along the right hand side of the image and some crackling has occurred in some parts of the painting where either a slightly different paint was used by the artist or where an area has been spot varnished.
